Welcome to the Wall Street Democrat
My goal is to give you a different “take” on politics and the markets in the U.S. and other countries. I want to provide you with a moderate, centrist Democratic perspective. I’m quite ready to criticize politicians on both sides of the aisle.
I also want to explain to you trends in the economy and the markets from a Wall Street point of view. Hopefully, I can help you sort through the noise and the propaganda that we hear from far-right commentators and the left wing of the Democratic Party.
A life-long Democrat, I spent my career on Wall Street, as a lawyer, banker, and, for the last 25 years, as a bond analyst. I focused on banks and other financial institutions, both in the U.S and in other countries. My professional background has given me an unusual perspective on the interplay between politics, economic trends and the markets.
I worked for several investment banks. During the financial crisis, I had a ringside seat, covering banks for Citigroup and hoping that the firm would survive. I don’t recommend that as a life experience. Still, that harrowing episode confirmed my view that our society has to rein in business people
and bankers from time to time, to protect our capitalist system and our democracy.
